Hi, I am always looking to improve my website so I would welcome any suggestions on how to improve it. My website is www.mayjocarhire.com and I have updated it following a lot of suggestions on the forum. How can I improve it further to rank better on google? I have also read that the flash slidepictures i have on homepage can hurt rankings is it true? I would like to rank first mostly on the following keywords: gozo car hire, malta airport car hire and airport transfers in Malta and Gozo

I have been reading and studying about website optimisation for over 9 years. I have read numerous different theories and there are so many self proclaimed experts who write on this subject. Everyone has different idea’s and I have tried most of them. The truth is that Google, the main player, have a secret algorithm or formula they use to assess and rate websites. As soon as they think anyone is getting close to working it out they change it. That being the case accept the reality that they rank your site how they choose and the ranking goes up or down when they choose and this is out of your control. Ignore claims that people can get you in the top ten ranking, if they could they would personally own the top ten sites in every section of the Internet, be millionaires and not need to advertise and charge for optimising your site!

My advice is design a website that answers your customers questions, fulfils their needs, looks pleasant and is easy to navigate. forget trying to chance the search engine ranking at the end pf the rainbow, just design a user friendly site and accept the ever changing ranking it gets.

Your website needs help! Here are some ideas.
1) Create a color for the background.
2) State what the purpose of your website- don’t make the visitor guess. Create a slogan, an “About Us” page, or something else.

3) I don’t get what the symbols for McDonalds are doing in the website. Create newer ones or tell us the reasons for the icons.
4) Create different sizes and colors for the fonts. They are all the same, hardly eye-catching.

First off, it’s a little jumbled. You need to clearly delineate the nav bar and the main text. I’d do that by separating the two. Perhaps adding windows with time stamps.
Secondly, it’s lacking in information. You need to show me:
1) why do i want to be there?

3) why should i tell others about it?
4) what audience are you targeting?
Pick up google analytics. Start testing different concepts and checking your hit rate. Think viral.
