  1. How to call server side function from client side script in ASP.NET …

Posted on May 11th, 2012 by admin

In JavaScript code, I have written a function SgetProductName that is mentioned in the SonClientClick attribute of the Button control. This JavaScript function gets the TextBox and Label controls by using getElementById() method of Sdocument. Then I have called the server side function by using PageMethod attribute. I have passed three parameters in the function, first one is the value of the Textbox second and third are onSuccess and onFailure respectively. SonSuccess will call the SonSuccess() function when the call to the server side function is successful and SonFailure will call the SonFailure() function when the call to the server side function is fail. In SonSuccess() function, I have assigned result to label. In SonFailure() function I have just displayed the failure message.

As soon as a customer visits your website, Cross Range plugin prompts him/her to initiate communication with you. If the customer chooses to start the communication, a request is sent to the CrossRange media server with the click of a single call button. Web Service : Asynchronous call by using Java Script and DHTML behaviour

This article shows how to make asynchronous call of web service by using Java Script and DHTML behaviour.

    Scenario:

In your web application data entry form, suppose you have a drop-down list from which user has to select an option, and on the basis of his/her selection you want to populate other drop-down list or field ( just like on selection of one category name from drop-down list you want to show/populate related products in other drop-down list ).

Calling web service using java script reduces post back and server round trip.

In this example we will access web service written in C# from client side by using java script and Web Service behaviour. I have used Categories, Products and Suppliers tables of Northwind database supplied by Microsoft with MS Access or Visual Studio.

    Requirements:

Data Layer: defines functions to retrieve data from database [Optional : you can directly access database from the web method]

Web Service: defines web method that can be accessed across the internet.

Java Script: defines functions to call web method.

webservice.htc file, and: It is an html component file which encapsulates web service behaviour, that can be attached with any form elements using the style attribute. The web service behaviour helps you to use web service without the knowledge of SOAP and, enables client-side script to access a Web Service without navigating to another URL. It provides you to call web method, synchronously and asynchronously. The default mode of remote method call is asynchronous.

HTML form: to show the result of the web method.

    .Net Framework 1.0

Data Layer Class: This class has three main functions : GetAllCategories, GetProducts and GetSuppliers.

The GetAllCategories function retrieves categoryid and categoryname of all categories from Category Table. This function is used to populated category drop-down list in page load event.

The GetProducts function retrieves productid and productname of all the products of specific category from Products Table.

The GetSuppliers function retrieves supplierid and companyname of supplier of specific product from suppliers table.

Web-Based Call Centers Transform Customer Service

E-commerce may be here to stay, but a transaction can never begin and end on the Internet. The virtual relationships of electronic commerce usually ends in a phone call or e-mail message to an actual person. This puts web-based call centers at the heart of online customer service. But how can old-line phone call centers be revved up for the e-commerce age? How can companies make their call centers an advantage rather than a aggravation?

Build trust with your clients by allowing an easy method of contacting you using Click To Call Button.

A meeting of the Wharton Forum on Electronic Commerce discussed these questions last month. The session drew together leading researchers on call centers and managers developing and running them to explore the new frontiers of customer service.

The internet is raising customer expectations for rapid solutions to their demands, says Patrick Harker , Wharton’s interim dean and one of the leaders of a major Wharton project on call centers in financial services. “It is raising the standards of customer satisfaction,” he says. Since customers have the power to seek out answers on their own, companies face the challenge of “developing an integrated system for delivery of service better, cheaper and faster than customers themselves.”

Harker noted that studies of customer service show that when something goes right, the individual employee dealing with the problem gets the credit. When something goes wrong, customers usually blame the firm itself. The key, he says, is to make sure things don’t go wrong. “We have to have less heroism and more good systems,” he says. “We need to develop systems so employees can provide consistently good service so customers keep coming back.”

Chris Martin, a senior manager at Dell Computer, says that Dell’s online customer support has taken significant chunks of service off the telephone lines. The company receives a quarter of a million hits a week on its web site to check on the status of orders, for example, which would have been handled by phone in the past. This is just one aspect of electronic service. “The goal is to connect customers to knowledge, customers to customers and customers to technicians,” Martin says. The company also provides support to the help desks that support individual users in corporations.

Hosted Call Accounting – Managing Your Communication Infrastructure

    Posted: Nov 30, 2009 |

Hosted Call Accounting (sometimes referred to as web call accounting) is a fully managed Software as a Service (SaaS) alternative to purchasing hardware and software and expending internal resources. These services can be strictly for basic incoming and outgoing telephone call tracking from a PBX system or all encompassing of the entire communication ecosystem. Some companies offer complete outsourcing services for remote polling, authorization code billing, charge-back, network planning, traffic analysis, carrier/service comparisons, SIP / IP PBX reporting, voice mail, call center, auto attendant, mobile tracking, internet usage and more.

Build relationships with your clients by providing an easy method of contacting you using Click To Call Button.

Many organizations have high overhead costs, staff turnovers and little time for in-house software. Hosted call accounting is managed by the provider; the end user accesses the services via a simple browser anywhere, anytime. There is generally no requirement for additional software. Hosted call accounting helps organizations manage their communication facilities. Management issues include controlling abuse, increasing staff productive and equipment provisioning. This service is a suitable solution for health care, educational institutions, government agencies and general business.

Traditionally call accounting involved the printing of hundreds or thousands of pages of activity detailing or summarizing telecom facilities by division, call center or end user. Hosted call accounting gives managers the option of reviewing the same data online in concise easy to read reports and charts. You can print only the detail you really need. No longer is there a need for one dedicated computer system to handle your call detail records.

Often when an organization changes, upgrades or replaces hardware internal call accounting software is also replaced. Hosted call accounting can make hardware changes and migration seamless. The central server of a seasoned web call accounting service can easily adapt to new data streams, protocols and technologies resulting in greater return on investment and long term assurance.

Hosted call accounting will reduce or eliminate the need for internal IT resources and training, provisioning of additional office space, computer resources and electricity cost. Experts in the field of communication management take full control of data collection, processing and real time access to reports. These specialists can generally assist you with the planning and management of the telecommunications network.

During times of uncertainty, it is imperative for organizations to streamline their organizations cut cost and increase productivity. The free flow of communication is imperative to the lifeline of every business. The invaluable metrics collected from PBXs, IP PBX/VoIP Servers, routers and gateways can assist business in configuring and fine tuning their communication facilities. Hosted call accounting offers a powerful hands free way to improve network performance, cut misuse and abuse, improve productivity and increase your bottom line.

How to integrate Click to Call with your website

Article Number: 159 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Mon, Jan 23, 2012 at 3:29 PM

    Getting Started

If you would like to use a click to call button on your website or some other system, it is easy to generate a request to our servers.

Build relationships with your clients by providing an easy method of contacting you using Click To Call Button.

    Basic Configuration

To help customers add a click to call button on our website, we now have a simple “call me now” generator. You can find this by clicking on Call API in your control panel.

You simply need to input what extension will be used to make the call to the customer, and which destination will be dialled when they pick up. When you click Generate Code we will create PHP code for you to insert on the web page that you wish the button to appear on.

Please note that currently we can only generate code in PHP and not other languages. If you wish to write your own code you can use the advanced API documentation instructions below.

Using our basic generator, you can configure the following options.

Extension: this is the internal extension that will be used to make the call out to the customer when they enter their phone number. The CLI used will be the same that is set for that extension. Therefore many users choose an extension that uses the same CLI as displayed on their website (so the customer knows it is the callback)

Internal destination: this is the internal destination that you want to receive the call. It can be any type of destination on the account, such as an individual extension, hunt group or call queue

Allowed external destinations: as you will be charged for the call to the customer, you may wish to restrict what types of numbers can be dialled. For example, if you only allow visitors to your site to enter UK landlines they will receive an error message if they attempt to enter a mobile number

Hopefully you can see that there are three stages in the click to call process

The website visitor enters their phone number

One of your extensions makes an outbound call to that number

When the call is answered another call is made to the chosen internal destination

    Advanced users

This section is for more advanced users, and allows you to tailor your click to call functionality more than you can with our basic button generator.

You simply send an HTTP POST to https://call-api.gradwell.com/0.9.3/call with the following parameters:

auth: An authentication token, configured below.

extension: The full 7 digit extension to originate the call from. This is mandatory if the token is valid for all extensions, and optional (and ignored) if the token is for a specific extension only. Please note that the 7 digit number must be an extension and not any other internal number (e.g. hunt group, alias, etc).

destination: The destination number as you would dial it from a VoIP phone.

cidname: Optional. If specified on a non-reverse call, this name will be used as the displayed caller name when the call is placed to the local extension. This may be useful in click-to-call systems so that it is immediately obvious who the called party is.

reverse: Whether to reverse the call order, i.e. place the call to the destination before ringing the extension. This should be set to 1 to reverse the order, or 0 (or omitted completely) to use the default order.

source: If an explicit source is specified, it will be used as the destination for the first call. So the API will place a call to source, and when answered, the call will be routed to destination. Both source and destination may be any number, so you may set up a call between two PSTN numbers using this parameter. The ‘call me now’ functionality also uses source.

wait: Whether to wait for extension to answer the call, and report success or failure based on that. If this is set to 1, then you will receive a success response when the extension answers, or a failure if the call times out or the extension rejects the call. If this is set to 0, you will receive a success response as soon as the call request is placed on the VoIP platform. Please note that even when you receive a success response, this does not guarantee that destination is a valid number or that the call will be answered.

Please note: You should not use the basic configuration on public facing websites, as it will expose your extension and password information to any visitor. Follow the advanced configuration example below for an example on how to avoid this.

The response will be a line of text, beginning with “OK:” for a successful request or, “ERR:” to indicate failure. In both cases a descriptive message will follow the status code, for example OK:Call request sent, or ERR:Invalid authentication.

Using curl on a Unix/Linux system, this can be easily be performed on the command line. Create a file called for example /tmp/webcall containing:

    auth=your_token&extension=1234567&destination=01225800819

Obviously, you will need to adjust the bits in italics. Then run the following command:

    curl -d @/tmp/webcall https://call-api.gradwell.com/0.9.3/call

In some circumstances, HTTP GET may be appropriate, and it is easier to code. Within a PHP script, you could simply write:

    @file(“https://call-api.gradwell.com/0.9.3/call?auth=your_token&extension=1234567&destination=01225800819″);

    ?>

It’s also important to note that you should not simply use a form to http post directly webcall, as you will expose your username and passwords to users of the form. Instead you should use the above PHP code inside a PHP file which you post to, and replace the destination number with a user entered number if need be.

    Advanced Configuration Example

If you want to add a “call me back” option to your website, you would need a form which posts back to your own website, for example “callmeback.php”. This form contains an input with the name/ID “yourNumber”. Then, inside callmeback.php, you could use the following code to initiate the callback securely:

    file(“https://voip.gradwell.com/login/webcall?email=your@emailaddress.com&pass=yourpassword&extension=1234567&destination=$number”);

    ?>

It might also be in your interest to do some more error detection and validation, for example only allow customers to enter 01/02 numbers (to prevent them initiating calls to mobiles or international numbers).

Please note – whichever method you use, at present there is no way to determine if the call was successful from the output of the webcall request.

This application will dial the destination number exactly as if you had dialled it from your SIP phone, with the exception that the extension will ring first and the destination will not be called until the SIP phone is answered. If reverse call order is selected then the Destination will ring first.

The Destination may be any routable number, including another extension on the Gradwell platform or a UK/International PSTN Number.

    Real life example

A Gradwell customer contacted us with an innovative use of this functionality within Internet Explorer, allowing you to setup calls by selecting telephone numbers on web pages.

A comprehensive configuration guide is available on his blog .
