How Spiders Work
Theoretically, a spider can begin traveling the internet from a single web page and follows networks of links to grab information from your Web pages. The information it grabs is sorted according to specific algorithms or different criteria when determining their ranking system. One problem of search engine positioning is that search engines are always changing their algorithms. This means that each one will sort out the information that is needed for their database. One engine may consider a particular factor such as “popularity” to be important while another may look at “themes” to be the most important information. You have to keep a watch on your pages continually and make adjustments accordingly. What works today may not work tomorrow.
The perceived value of the services you offer can be upgraded by making your company appear bigger. 1300 Number – Contact Us are the perfect way of taking your local company to the national stage.
The spider will visit the web page and perform the following tasks:
1. confirm the existence of the web page; may index at that time or come back at a later date
2. index page content (using partial or full-text indexing)
3. identify all hyperlinks to other Web resources (this is an indication of popularity and is becoming increasingly important)
4. proceed to follow the hyperlinks, visiting the referenced Web pages and repeating steps 1-3 above
AltaVista will index old pages if there has been at least a 50-70 byte change. Always update and keep fresh content on your pages.
Most spiders “crawl” the Web on a schedule and when Internet network traffic is at its lowest, such as during the middle of the night.
Query Terms and Keywords
A search engine compares a query term that you submit to the millions of records in its database. The most fundamental elements of any query term are keywords. Keywords are simple terms that are derived directly from a users search topic that are used by a search engine to conduct a sorting operation on database records. The most simple query term consists of only one keyword. However, query terms can contain keyword phrases and even sentences. The figure below displays what a simple query term containing two keywords would look like in a keyword phrase.
Query terms can very simple or as complex as “miniature short-hair French poodle.”
Selecting Keywords
Keywords are terms or short phrases that describe your company, product(s), or service(s). Targeting keywords are critical to the successful promotion of your website. If you choose the right keywords for your site, you are on your way to Web promotion success. Choosing the wrong keywords, however, could defeat your efforts.
Remember the following points regarding website keywords:
Most people search for word phrases comprised of two or three keywords versus single keywords because they do not want to receive too many irrelevant matches. Do not make the mistake of targeting very general keywords. Typically, these keywords will not make it into a search engine top 10 for your website.
If you pick a keyword phrase that produces 6,548,000 search possibilities, consider some major fine tuning of that phrase. Try to choose keyword/phrases that produce results of approximately 10,000 or fewer hits. Achieve a high ranking in this manner first, then move up to a phrase that produces more hits when you become more proficient at search engine placement.
Choosing the right keyword/phrases for your site doesnt have to be rocket science. It just takes a little forethought.
How to Select Keywords
The following points are importantand sometimes criticalregarding your selection of search engine keywords. Each point is described in detail in the section following this list.
Start with specific keywords and not generic keywords.

Two Myths about the Search Engine Listing
By: Mohamad Zaki Hussein
Getting top search engine listing is perhaps one of the hottest subjects in the internet marketing world. The problem is that many discussions on this subject are based on speculation. Almost no one knows the exact algorithms of the search engines. And what make it worse is that the search engines have a habit of changing their algorithms.
Do you have the ability for your clients to contact you for FREE using 1300 number and 1800 number signup? 1800 services are a free call within Australia.
However, some people are so obsessed with top search engine listing that they tend to undermine the importance of other web traffic generation techniques. These “trances” are partly caused by some misleading myths that surround the search engine marketing subject. Below are two of those myths with some empirical facts that contradict and refute them.
Myth #1: “You can’t get loads of targeted traffic without the top search engine listing.”
This is completely wrong. Jack Humphrey, the power linking guy, has given us a picture that it is possible to get huge amount of web traffic without the top search engine listing. In his Special Report, “What if Google Didn’t Exist?,” he shared one of his sites’ stat in April 2004 and guess what? From 71,444 unique visitors that he got at that month, “google search” referred only a small portion of them, i.e. 0.07%.
You can read Jack’s complete report at http://www.webmastertraffictools.com/weblog/index.php/weblog/googleexist/ .
I also found another similar fact from Tinu Abayomi-Paul, the free traffic chick. In her blog post, “Site Promotion is Multi-Faceted,” she said that the search engines only constitute 6 – 10% of her traffic in any given month. While she didn’t tell us about the monthly amount of traffic to her website, I believe that her site gets huge traffic every month, because she has an Alexa ranking of 38,371 (that’s what my Alexa toolbar showed me at the time I wrote this article).
You can read Tinu’s complete blog post at http://www.freetraffictip.com/2005/06/site-promotion-is-multi-faceted.php .
Myth #2: “The major search engines are reliable sources of sustainable, residual, traffic.”
This is also inaccurate. Look at what happened to Alice Seba from Internet Based Moms. One of her websites, http://malcolmsweb.com , has been banned by Google, even though that website was full with good content. Since May 21, 2005, her visitors instantly dropped from about 700-800 per day to 200-250 per day.
You can read Alice’s complete story at her blog post, ‘Alice “White Hat” Seba Has Been Banned,’ at http://www.aliceseba.com/2005/06/alice-white-hat-seba-has-been-banned.html .
Now I don’t mean to undermine the importance of the major search engines. The major search engines are one of the biggest traffic sources on the net and so, you should do proper optimization and try to get top search engine listing.
But, don’t let yourself be misled by these myths and thus ignore many other web traffic generation techniques. With the unstable nature of the search engines, it would be wise to use the search engines only as one of your traffic sources and look for other traffic generation techniques to build multiple sources of traffic.

Keywords are essential factors in Search Engine Optimization. Placing keywords in the title, topics, and contents in your website is a key to getting a higher rank in a search engine. The more relevant your website gets, the higher it can rank. In the process of getting the appropriate keywords, you need to have sufficient knowledge and expertise in your business field or its related fields.
Links also contribute to your site’s search engine ranking. Search engines evaluate the internal links, incoming links, and outgoing links of your website whether they are relevant or not. So do some link building work for your website.
