There are several different techniques a user can do to help improve his or her typing skills. Below is a short list of different ideas and recommendations you can do to help improve your typing. Keep in mind that most people are not going to be able to improve their typing speed overnight.

Proper placement
Learn to type the proper way (no typing with one or two fingers). This means your fingers should be on the home row keys A, S, D, and F with the left hand and J, K, L, and ; with the right hand. Of course if you’re on a non-English keyboard or a non- QWERTY keyboard this may change.
What fingers are used for what keys on the keyboard?
Type more and practice
Starting off with the most obvious, typing and practicing typing more will obviously help the most. The more you type the more familiar you will become with the computer keyboard and the position of the keys.
When practicing keep some of the below things in mind.
Try not to look at the keyboard while typing. This is usually the hardest for most people, but is definitely a skill that should be learned. Not having to look at where the keys are on a keyboard can dramatically improve the speed of your typing. If you need help learning to not look at your hands try putting a large piece of paper over the keyboard that will allow your hands to fit under it without you being able to see the keys, or put stickers on each of the keys.
Make sure your posture at the computer is good. For example, sit in the upright position with both feet flat on the floor and relax.
Chat
Online chat can be a great place to learn to type and is also usually fun at the same time. If you’re really wanting to learn to type more efficiently while chatting make sure to use proper capitalization, punctuation, and do not use chat slang .
E-mail, online bulletin boards and forums
Sending friends and family frequent e-mail letters can be another great way to learn to type and keep in touch with all your friends and family. In addition to sending e-mail messages there are millions of online forums with every topic of conversation imaginable. Becoming a member of one of these forums and participating in talking about something you enjoy can also be fun and another great way to learn to type.
Run through online typing tests several times
Run through each of the online typing tests several times. Not only will doing each of the different tests help improve your typing, you will be able to catch your errors and notice your progression.
Type pages of a book, letter, or any other page with lots of text
Although not an option that is as fun as some of the other suggestions listed in this document, taking any letter, page of a book, document, etc and typing everything on that page is a great way to help improve your typing. Not only will this help improve your typing of unfamiliar words, it is also a skill sometimes required for some jobs.
Create your own web page, blog, or online journal
Creating your own web page , blog , or online journal that you frequently update is another great way to practice your typing while also doing something productive at the same time.

Typing games are a great way to learn the position of all the keys on the keyboard and also help you practice your typing while having fun. Below are a few games that will help with your typing.

Alright, here’s the total straight from the hip answer – you need to focus on a smaller niche for your site.
Right now you’ve got a great visual image, some interesting design, but this would be something that you’d mark up to a personal page in delivery.

If you want to be taken seriously, even if you want to have fun doing it, you have to approach it in a more definitive way.
Ok…here’s a way to explain it…you state you want to help people in a computer way…ok…but you list programming, video games, graphic art and sorta tossing in everything but the hard drive and then some.
You can’t give them a computer version of Walmart/Kmart – and you don’t want to…because the things you mention include some very different types of people. So to help those people, you have to make sure you are offering the best you can to their focus…
With me? It’s like putting you in a huge warehouse and saying here’s everything about computers – go find it! Ack! You’d more than likely run out the door!
Now, if I say “Hey dude, you need some help with these (RPG, 1st person shooter, Fighting, Sim) video games? Come over here to this site and I’ll show you all you could want to know about these (specific) type of video games.”
Or “Hey, I have an awesome collection of graphic art images that you can check out and use for whatever you want. I even have some that you can download now for free! I even have some tutorials to help you improve your own skills. I even have trial versions of Photoshop, Freehand, ect. to get you started out.”
See how this directs the information to a selective and focused group? That is what you need to target your site to, one group. Nothing says you can’t make another group with a different focus…lol

Since the original Code Red series was published in April, a number of initiatives have sprung up — some small, some less so — to help address the issues raised by The Spectator’s landmark neighbourhood mapping project.

A June followup feature that highlighted the effects of poverty on students at inner-city Parkview Secondary School near Ivor Wynne Stadium struck a particular chord in the community.
One anonymous donor handed the principal a cheque for $20,000 to help fund the school’s breakfast and lunch program. The Sisters of Notre Dame religious order also decided to triple its financial support for Parkview’s meal programs to $15,000 for this school year.
Parkview principal Paul Beattie said enrolment is up noticeably this year — a direct response, he said, to the article.
“Parents want to bring their kids here and the kids want to be here,” Beattie said.
In fact, he added, attendance for Grade 9 students was 100 per cent through the first six days of the school year.
The Parkview story also spurred Jen Baker to take action.
Baker, an official with the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club, helps run an Eco Art program in partnership with non-profit The Print Studio on James Street North. The program helps bring art and nature to inner-city schools.
“We read the Parkview article and thought this could be a great match for those students,” Baker said.
She contacted Beattie, who thought it was a great idea, and the six-week program will now be offered to Grade 9 students.
The Red Hill valley will be the focus of the program, giving students an easily accessible location. They’ll learn about the history of the valley since the retreat of the last ice age.
“I talk about local wildlife, our watersheds, our local natural areas, some endangered species,” Baker explained. “The artists from The Print Studio work with the students to make art based on the species I talked about.
“This kind of program is a great equalizer,” she added.
“I think you could have kids from Parkview and kids from Hillfield Strathallan and they would all get the same experience.”
Other signs of the series’ impact include:
* The city is working on a new initiative to help strengthen the health of Hamilton’s neighbourhoods.
“Is this tied to Code Red? Absolutely,” said city manager Chris Murray.
Murray said the city has been in discussions with other agencies, and in particular, officials hope to strike a formal relationship with McMaster University to conduct research on Hamilton’s neighbourhoods and monitor the city’s progress.
Code Red, Murray added, “is a call for action, and we need to respond.”
* On Oct. 4, Today’s Family and the Hamilton Jewish Federation was to screen the film Inside Hana’s Suitcase at Hamilton Place as a fundraiser to help children in the community in response to the Code Red series.
* Mohawk College announced a new project to help improve access to college for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity. The project sprung directly from Code Red’s findings.
“Our access project is about putting a post-secondary education within the reach of every Hamiltonian in every neighbourhood,” said Mohawk president Rob MacIsaac, in a speech made Sept. 1. “Postal codes should not determine who gets a college education.”
* At least four university courses being taught this year at McMaster are to use the findings of the Code Red series as part of the course curriculum.
* The findings of the Code Red series are being cited in a grant application made to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for a neighbourhood maternal health study being proposed by McMaster researchers.
The grant application notes the Code Red series has sparked action within the city: “Maternal child health has been identified as a priority by the City of Hamilton through a community planning process in response to the Code Red series.”
* Some of the Code Red findings are also going to be presented at the ninth International Conference on Urban Health, which will be held later this month in New York City.
The two Code Red presentations are titled Low birthweight babies and social determinants of health: A Canadian example, and Connections between health, poverty and social determinants at the neighbourhood level: A case study of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
