helloooo Sal! There were several things I liked about your website. The picture at the top is attractive. I really liked the majority of your bio, it sounded very professional.
The perceived value of the services you offer can be upgraded by chaging the perception of your company – make it appear bigger than it is. 1300 Number – Contact Us are the perfect way of taking your home company to the national stage.
Let’s start with the bio page. I really like how the text is centered on this page. I would like to see that on the home page as well (there’s too much white space on your home page. It distracted me from your actual text.) The next to last paragraph bothered me with the many repetitions of “your”. As a client, I think I would have liked to see links to samples of your works rather than being told to google your name.
On the home page, again, the white space on the right makes me feel off balanced, which makes it hard to concentrate on what you’ve written. This is might be a matter of personal preference, but I think your site would feel more fleshed out if you broke up the home page a bit. Have a summary of what you offer and how it would benefit the client, then have separate links to how much it costs and how the process works. Links to samples of your work and testimonials on the main page would also make your site more professional.
I thought the contact page was fine. I don’t know anything about how to get those fill in boxes, though I agree they would be nice.
As far as the business model goes, I thought that was fine. I think you really explained that well, so there shouldn’t be any questions from the client about how the process goes.
I hope these suggestions are helpful and that your website is successful!
Hey there,
Thank you for taking the time to look over my website and offer some constructive
comments.
I’ve implemented all your suggestions … since they all made perfect sense … and
to tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have even thought of those things myself.
Today, I decided to launch it by announcing it to my list of 5,000 subscribers.
Here is the letter …
(subject line:) A Writer is Born!
Not really, but I liked the excitement of that
title.
Here’s what the hullabaloo is ALL about today…
date
Since day after day I ramble about how healing your
subconscious mind will release its magic to liberate
your world — you probably think that my first love is
psychology.
…After all, I’ve had too many personal miracles occur
from unearthing my sorrows and transforming them into
moments of emancipation to doubt the magic of the
subconscious mind — and this idea has long since
passed from the realm of belief into the kingdom of
knowing.
Actually, however, writing has always been my first
love.
I fell in love with the written word at the age of 17,
when I wrote my first maudlin poetry about unrequited
High School love. (Her name was Irene — a girl with a
bewitching smile and liquid black eyes, whose German
father and Arabian mother ha d bequeathed her with an
exquisite tan and exotic features.)
There’s something about converting repressed emotion
into words that’s ecstatic; words transform the
ordinary into the extraordinary because while mimicking
life they make the lived experience more acute –
the way a mountain climber at a peak feels more alive
looking down at the plains through the lace of clouds
than he did when he was on the plains themselves.
While in my peregrination through life, I’ve worn the
perspective of a journalist, a computer geek, and a
psychologist, penetrating them all has been my inner
artistic child who considers himself a writer.
While I’ve been helping people over the years with
their writing — from assisting a Holocaust victim to
write her first novel to whipping up some direct mail
pieces–I’ve only done it in an accidental way — but last
week, after pondering my prime credo “do what
you love” I decided to create a business out of it.
So far, I’ve helped a few clients with SEO-focused
articles for their niche and sales letters for their
products — and it’s been marvelous fun seeing their
web businesses begin to sink roots.
So — if you need writing services, from writing for
your online or offline business to coaching your first
short story or novel — give me a holler.
I’ve slapped on my qualifications and the details of my
new business here:

A Call for Articles – Articles – Typing Injury FAQ
Posted on February 29th, 2012 by admin
A Call for Articles
The Typing Injury FAQ (TIFAQ) is expanding and a selection of articles is being collected that will cover different professional approaches in dealing with Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs), based upon the person’s background (Doctor, Therapist, Ergonomist, Chiropractor, Body Worker/Awareness, etc.).
Build trust with your Website visitors by providing an easy form of contacting you using Click To Call Button.
The purpose of this is to compare and contrast the theories and methods used to address RSIs based on a professional’s field of expertise (training/experience/etc.). This will allow TIFAQ visitors to read the articles can gain a better appreciation of the varied specialties involved with RSI treatment and prevention and provide them with more and varied ways to address their problems.
The following basic format is suggested:
A description of the author’s specialty/area of expertise. This could include its history, traditional use, and role in treating or preventing RSIs
The basic theory(ies) that the specialty uses to explain the occurrence of RSIs.
How the specialty goes about treating/preventing RSIs based upon the theory(ies) noted in (2.) above.
A biography of the author: credentials, experience, etc. and a description of his/her business. Business name, address, phone, email, website all welcome as this will permit TIFAQ viewers to contact you for more information, etc.
Inclusion of references to revelant journal articles, publications, etc. would also really be nice here (optional).
This is an opportunity for you to discuss your professional field and how it benefits the RSI population, as well as provide information about yourself and your business, services, publications, etc. Many people would have the opportunity to read your article in the TIFAQ and contact you for further information. This article would also be on permanent display in the TIFAQ and could be updated periodically if you so desired.
The TIFAQ benefits from this by being able to provide valuable information for its visitors and increase its number of users. The RSI Network newsletter is also being revived (with concurrence with its originator Caroline Rose) and the articles may also be included in one of the newsletter’s issues, with your permission.
Interested in participating? Just send an email for more information, or just put together an article and send it to me and we can discuss it further from there.
Other on-line articles for the TIFAQ will also be request and considered, so if you have a idea for an article that would fit well within the TIFAQ’s topic areas, let us know.

I did have a quote from someone local for 960 + VAT and another from someone who did it all over internet/email/phone as slightly futher away for 800 inc. VAT.

How can I improve traffic to my website?
I started a website at http://www.linkrow.com so that I could have a homepage that would link to all of the popular websites. It makes browsing the internet much easier and simpler. Plus it has a google based search bar for targeted searches. It has been up and running for about three months and only fifteen users have registered. I see regular daily visitors but it doesn’t seem like it is growing. Please provide any suggestions and or help.

How can I improve my website?
I’ve recently developed a web presence, which I am looking to grow throughout the next few years. The idea is that the site is low maintenance (one update per month, as a rule of thumb) and shows: (a) best practice in communication; (b) my previous work experience, and (c) references from satisfied clients.
The perceived value of the services you offer can be increased by making your company – make it appear bigger than it is. 1300 Number – Contact Us are the perfect way of taking your home company to the international stage.
Bearing in mind that I’m a bit of a luddite (although not too slow a learner) with a finite amount of time to spend on the site – are there any ways that I could improve it?

How about get a help from Google here. Its quite intuitive, and you can ask for your preferred domain name. Advantage would be, you will get listed in Google and Yahoo. Which means that, you will become easily searchable over the Internet.

Seeing that you already have a domain the answer above is irrelevant.
Looking breifly at your website, it is a clean crisp layout that is fairly simple to navigate around. One addition is possibly to add a logo or your trademark next to your name at the top of the page this add’s so much power to a page and influance to a company.
Looking quickly at the source code I notice your not using any key words or meta description but have the lines of code in place for them. If you add these it will help with your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
Also noticed your using analytics which is a fantastic tool, its a great thing to learn how to use you can find so much information about the type of people going to your website.
Only other addition I would suggest would be a contact form on your contact page not just an email address.

I agree with Jonathan the key area for some work is meta titles, descriptions and so on and importantly a coherent keyword strategy.
The site is well laid out informative and easy on the eye. So the next effort will be getting viewers to it.
Including links on all your other communications, registering with business directories, using social media (twitter, linkedIn, facebook etc) are just some of the ways to increase traffic.
All consume unpaid time of course but one task a day soon builds a useful customer communication tool

I don’t know much about the technical aspects but on the design I can say a bit more.
I think your site is a bit bland. And why the picture of the mountains? If you want the mountains for a good reason use different pictures of mountains on every page. Or different pictures of the same mountains (not flowers or people just mountains). This will make each page more distinct, so visitors know better on what page in your website they are. Now every page looks the same. And as said before a logo(type) would help a lot. And a well designed colorscheme wouldn’t hurt either…

Break the content down to individual blocks that would highlight topic or keywords. Add more focus on communication consultancy. Related images and graphics to content. Make content and key messages more stand out.
Web sample below is good reference.

So far it looks pretty good.
Simple (in a good way), not too flashy, straightforward and professional.
You might try to include more of the “what’s in it for me” – it says a lot about what you do but not what that does for your clients (without reading specific case studies).

Find out what your prospects want to read, target on them and put your effort in this.
Find out the most succesful keywords as well, what are the words, phrases and headlines that drives traffic to your site.
For both is very important to analyse, otherwise you’re very busy trying without knowing if it makes a difference.

I would buy “Don’t Make Me Think” by Steve Krug and “Letting Go Of The Words” by Jinny Redish. Both are great books all about refining websites and making them do the essentials well. They’re very easy to read because they tackle things from the visitor’s perspective (who also wants things to be easy).
You do need to consider SEO but if you’re just starting out it makes more sense to get your website right first and then apply the SEO tecniques before and after launch. The best book I’ve ever read on SEO is Steve Johnston’s “50 ways to make Google love your site”.He’s a top consultant (search for Google Consultant – he will always be top) and gives relevant, up-to-date advice. He is just releasing a new version of this e-book so that will be ideal.
For what it’s worth, I think you’re design looks good. Nice and clean, professional looking so design-wise I think you’re fine.

Hire a professional web firm. Check their references just as you would when hiring any professional service, visit their website and view their portfolio of work and call them and try to get a feel for their customer service vibe. Clearly communicate your goals and budget for your site and then choose the firm that seems the best fit for you.

Consider your audience. Think of an imaginary ‘best visitor’ – someone who is looking for a man of your skills and experience but knows nothing about you. Imagine they are a slow reader. Include the things they are looking for in easily disgestible bites.
Consider the main purpose of the site. If it is an online business card – make your contact details more prominent like they would be on a business card.
I disagree with the advice to include a contact form. They can be difficult to set up and if they go wrong, because your host disables the mail server, you’ll never know.

Search engine optimisation, is a hard and long work to drive traffics to
your website.
You have to submit URL and keywords of your website
to bookmark directories, and much more works or get socialized by SEO companies such as: www.kloudsocial.com ; they are accurate, fast and affordable.

Your site is very clean…perhaps too clean? You need to think about your brand. Your job is communication, what do the mountains communicate? Who do you typically communicate with? What is interesting or different about what you have to say?
Obviously SEO is important for getting your site found in the first place. But what’s keeping the site visitor there once you’ve been found? Now if you had used some text with that mountains image ( for example, “Communication should be clear, like alpine mountain air and concise like a granite cliff” ) I would’ve been good with that. Right now, the mountains just look like filler. Not relevant, generic.
You need to have your message prominent on the page as soon as the user gets there. “Consultant Profile” really isn’t that interesting.
If you’re not using WordPress, I would recommend it. There is a low learning curve. Having a web site isn’t just a “built it an they will come” scenario. It should be used as an integrated tool with other advertising (even if that’s a business card). You MUST have regularly updated content. That means blogging about things you care about and are an expert in. That means aggregating interesting sources from other places. You could probably do that once a month, but it does require a bit of a commitment.
I would recommend you hire a professional designer to craft the overall look and feel of the site, then you can update it yourself from there.
Please understand, I’m not trying to be harsh. The investment in building a clear brand will come back in spades when the phone calls and emails start coming in.
By the way…I strongly recommend you get an actual contact form with a captcha on it. WordPress has several plugins that do this easily (contact form 7 being an excellent one). You are going to get LOADS of spam having your email address showing in plain text.

I agree that the mountain photo is confusing, I can’t tell what it’s supposed to signify except to add some eye-candy.
I have a Planning Your Web Site Tutorial that may give you some ideas.
I also have some marketing and SEO articles you may find useful.
On first glance one thing I would do is remove the navigation from the header and some of the nav. from the footer. You don’t really need to repeat the links in all three places. Just keep it simple.
Then I’d tweak the copy, particularly on the home page to speak not so much to what you do, but what you do for your clients. Think about how you help them. Imagine them as individual personas and think about what they would want to know in order to decide to hire you. Since you’re a solo firm I’d also switch to first person on the consultant profile page. You could also rename that to About Michael. It makes it a bit more personal.
Otherwise I think you’re on the right track. The trick is to not overthink it. I think we all do that more when we’re marketing ourselves than we do for our clients. I’m always thinking of new things to do to my site (and always behind on making it happen…I really need to clarify my services section) but the great thing about the Web is that it is flexible. You can tweak a few things now, then revisit it in a few weeks to see what you can modify.
Best wishes for your site and your business.

First, here’s a piece of advice that you may have heard before but I have found invaluable: in order for you to love others you have to be able to love yourself. So be proud of who you are, your accomplishments, and everything you do have, instead of thinking about what you do not have or what you could have. Although it is commendable to aspire to become a better person or lead a better life, I think a person should appreciate the life s/he has before trying to make it better; if you’re trying to fix something about you that you’ll never be happy with then you’ll always be unhappy. The second thing I’ll say is to never let anyone make you feel otherwise. If you believe in yourself and do things the way you want, to the best of your ability and that’s all you can expect from yourself.
Of course this is all easier said than done, and comes mostly from the inside. So referring to external sources of self-confidence I would suggest getting involved in group or volunteer activities that allow you to contribute/participate in a greater good/purpose. I find that having a communal or supportive group of people all with the same goal allows people to start something together, endure challenges, and overcome these challenges to accomplish something helps. If you’re a physically active person, I would highly recommend trying martial arts–not only does it teach discipline, propriety, conduct, it allows you the release and environment where everyone is starting out just like you; skills you learn and ability to do them come from you and no one else, making you feel very accomplished, all in a supportive environment [hopefully if it is a decent instructor
]. If not so physically active, I would encourage volunteering at a hospital, food bank, Habitat for Humanity, or some kind of charity. Here you can gain the confidence in knowing that your abilities and work was appreciated by someone who needed it.Good luck!

[quote:1njbv1t3]I have built a website :
http://www.gibsidephotography.co.uk
I would like to know how I can improve my search engine optimisation.
I would also like suggestions on how to improve my web site's user friendliness. Is it too complicated?
Thanks,
I have been reading and studying about website optimisation for over 9 years. I have read numerous different theories and there are so many self proclaimed experts who write on this subject. Everyone has different idea's and I have tried most of them. The truth is that Google, the main player, have a secret algorithm or formula they use to assess and rate websites. As soon as they think anyone is getting close to working it out they change it. That being the case accept the reality that they rank your site how they choose and the ranking goes up or down when they choose and this is out of your control. Ignore claims that people can get you in the top ten ranking, if they could they would personally own the top ten sites in every section of the Internet, be millionaires and not need to advertise and charge for optimising your site!
My advice is design a website that answers your customers questions, fulfils their needs, looks pleasant and is easy to navigate. forget trying to chance the search engine ranking at the end pf the rainbow, just design a user friendly site and accept the ever changing ranking it gets.[/quote:1njbv1t3]well first thing i notice is some of your pictures are out of focus, since if you want people to buy pictures, they should have a water mark on them, and all be really good quality.
